NuStar Moves Up to No. 26 on the List of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 2014-- NuStar Energy L.P. (NYSE: NS) announced today that it ranked No. 26 on the 100 Best Companies to Work For list, which will appear in the February 3 issue of FORTUNE. NuStar, which has made the list for six consecutive years, moved up 12 places from last year when the company was ranked No. 38.

NuStar is one of only five energy companies on the magazine’s 17th annual top employer list, and one of only three San Antonio-based companies.

“We are always proud to be recognized on this list as it’s a true reflection of the positive attitude and can-do spirit of our employees,” said NuStar President and CEO Brad Barron. “Our employees are the No. 1 reason that we have a great company, as they work day in and day out to run our operations safely and reliably, give back to our communities, and make NuStar a great place to work.

“Of course, this honor would not have been possible without the special corporate culture created by Bill Greehey, our Chairman of the Board, and Curt Anastasio, our founding CEO who recently retired, and I look forward to working with our employees to continue to make NuStar one of the best companies to work for in America.”

Companies that apply for the list opt to participate in the selection process, which includes an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about their programs and company practices. Great Place to Work® then evaluates each application using its unique methodology based on five dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

Some of the considerations in NuStar’s selection for the 100 Best honor include the company’s employee benefits plan, which has been rated the best in its industry by Hewitt Associates; its reward and recognition programs; commitment to volunteerism and charitable giving; and special corporate culture. NuStar offers all-employee bonuses; a retirement savings plan that includes a 401(k) match of 100 percent up to 6 percent of pay and a company-funded retirement plan; company-paid health and welfare benefits that are 100 percent funded for employees and their families; a health and wellness program; and much more. The company also has never had a layoff in its history, and instills in employees the philosophy that if they do a good job, they will always have a good job.

“The FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For® list grows more competitive every year, and this list represents the best of the best,” said China Gorman, Global Chief Executive Officer of Great Place to Work®. “While each company is unique, what they have in common are strong cultures that support positive workplaces.”

Organizations named on the list see many benefits that include better financial performance, less employee turnover, higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty, more innovative and creative thinking, higher productivity and enhanced public perception.
