SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 22, 2013--
The Greehey Family Foundation and the NuStar Foundation announced today
that they’ll give a total of $300,000 to the American Red Cross to
support the relief efforts underway after natural disasters in the
Philippines and the Midwest U.S. This gift will help provide resources
in the Philippines where a massive typhoon tore a path through the
islands, and in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois where tornadoes wreaked
havoc this past Sunday.
This gift is part of the SA Hearts Philippines initiative being
organized by the Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce. They have
established a consortium of local civic organizations and businesses,
including the Organization of Filipinos in Texas (OFT), to support the
American Red Cross' relief efforts in the Philippines. They plan to hold
a ceremony on December 14 so all of the donors can present their checks
to local American Red Cross representatives.
“We’re proud to support the American Red Cross and its efforts to
provide critical aid to everyone impacted by these natural disasters,”
said Bill Greehey, Chairman of NuStar and the Greehey Family Foundation.
“One of the best ways that we can help the victims and their loved ones
is by keeping them in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly
difficult time. Hopefully, our support and donations will help lift up
these communities and put them on the road to recovery.”
Curt Anastasio, President and CEO of NuStar, praised the American Red
Cross and the NuStar employees saying, “The Red Cross volunteers are the
true heroes as they are saving and changing lives through the critical
work they are doing in these regions. And of course, our NuStar
employees are our heroes, as they contribute their time and resources to
help countless worthy causes day in and day out in all of our
communities and beyond. Without a doubt, we have the most generous
employees in corporate America as they always answer the call to help.”
All of the funds raised will be used by the American Red Cross to
support its relief efforts, which include providing shelter, food,
emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters.
